Which mobile apps did India search for in 2013? According to the recently released Google Zeitgeist 2013,
an annual review of the most searched terms around the world, India’s
mobile internet users search for messaging and browsing tools more than
any other type of app. In India, the “Most Searched Mobile App” category
is dominated by popular messaging and browsing apps, with WhatsApp and UC Browser topping the rankings for the most number of searches on mobile in 2013.
Among the top 10 most searched mobile apps are 3 messaging tools
and 2 browsers. With 30 million monthly active users in the country,
messaging app WhatsApp took the top spot, while its competitors Skype
and WeChat ranked fifth and seventh, respectively.
UC Browser, which has seen a significant increase in mobile browser
market share in the country during the past 2 years, came in second
place, followed by competitor Opera Mini. According to StatCounter, UC
Browser overtook Opera as the most popular mobile browser in India
during July of this year.
Rounding out the top 10 most searched mobile apps are Google Maps
(fourth place), Dictionary (sixth place), MX Player (eighth place),
Google Earth (ninth place) and Talking Tom (tenth place).
